The AEGIS
technology was registered with the EPA in 1976 and has been used commercially
since that time providing unsurpassed protection against bacteria, fungi, and
algae and their staining, As well as odors, defacement and human health
effects.
The
AEGIS Microbe Shield, or simply AEGIS, is a
permanent antimicrobial that, when applied properly only by trained
applicators, becomes part of a new surface, a surface that is highly resistant
to microbial attack. Unlike all other conventional antimicrobials, AEGIS
does not off gas, leach, diffuse, migrate, volatilise, or otherwise leave the
surface to which it has been applied. The result is an extraordinary safety
and efficacy profile unmatched by other products.
A
BOUND ANTIMICROBIAL agent, like the ÆGIS Microbe
Shield, remains chemically attached to the surface on which it is
applied. It functions by interrupting the organism’s delicate cell membrane.
This prevents microorganisms from carrying on vital life processes. This
antimicrobial acts on contact with organisms and can do so again and again.
The
incorporation of AEGIS Antimicrobial, and that chemistry's remarkable surface
modifying characteristics has produced a new generation of air filtration
products that can provide effective control of airborne microbes while
eliminating the filter surface as a potential site for microbial growth.
